Layer 7 DDoS

A Layer 7 Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack can bring down a website by way of perfectly legitimate user requests at a rate that is dramatically lower than volumetric network DDoS but at a rate simply too high for the website to respond to. The attack may be explicitly designed to overload the delivery infrastructure to the point of failure. Or even just a portion of that infrastructure such as a web application or back end database that can’t sustain that volume of traffic or the attack may be inadvertent, just the result of a flood of requests at a volume and rate that the site can’t keep up with and remain responsive to its intended human audience. In all cases, the bots are impacting site availability and generate unnecessary costs to the site owner.

PerimeterX Bot Defender provides a natural defense to this type of attack by stopping automated access and attacks well before they trigger volumetric or rate thresholds.
